George Michael finally has a headstone marking his grave, five years after the pop music legend died.
His memorial at London’s Highgate Cemetery is now inscribed with the Englishman’s birth name, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, The Sun reported.
“George’s grave was left unmarked over fears it would become a morbid tourist attraction,” a source told the paper. “But a lot of people believed he deserved better.”
Michael was one half of the 1980s hit-making duo Wham! before embarking on a globally successful solo career, marked by international hits such as “Careless Whisper” and “Faith.”
He was found dead at age 53 on Christmas Day 2016 at his home northwest of London.
Michael is buried next to his mother, Lesley, and his sister Melanie, who passed away at age 59 on December 25, 2019, three years to the day after the Grammy winner died.
