The Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.
Gwyneth Paltrow’s 18-year-old daughter tried on one of her famous mom’s most controversial red carpet looks recently: the semi-sheer black Alexander McQueen dress she wore to the 2002 Oscars.
After a fan asked Paltrow whether her eldest child has access to her fashion archives, the “Shakespeare in Love” actress shared a snap of Apple modeling the semi-sheer McQueen design in her massive walk-in closet.
The 50-year-old Academy Award winner has spoken at length about the criticism of her Goth gown, widely considered to be her biggest fashion faux pas; at the time, it was deemed “unflattering” and a “fashion disaster.”
“Everybody really hated [it], but I think it’s kind of dope,” Paltrow said of the look during her Vogue “Life in Looks” video in 2021.
“I had a weird hangover about it for a while because people were really critical. I think at the time, it was too Goth … too hard. I think it sort of shocked people. But I like it.”
In a 2013 Goop Q&A, however, Paltrow did admit she had “a few issues” with the look.

“I still love the dress itself but I should have worn a bra and I should have just had simple beachy hair and less makeup,” she wrote.
“Then, it would have worked as I wanted it to – a little bit of punk at the Oscars.”
With her fuss-free ponytail and minimal glam, perhaps Apple was simply making up for her mom’s styling mistakes.
