Michelle Obama’s 2019 Essence Festival jumpsuit is now shoppable

Michelle Obama has never met a sequined look she didn’t love, and her latest sparkling ensemble has sparked a sweeping obsession.

The former first lady, 55, stunned crowds during her conversation with Gayle King at the 2019 Essence Festival in New Orleans on Saturday night with a glittering midnight blue sequin jumpsuit by Sergio Hudson.

Hudson, who is beloved by celebrities including Rihanna, Amal Clooney, Cardi B and more, told Page Six Style that Obama’s stylist, Meredith Koop, “wanted something less formal but still with the disco edge of the [Hudson’s most recent] collection.”

The designer went to work creating a custom design in an entirely different color for Obama, who paired the groovy look with oversize Djula white gold and diamond hoops ($5,882) and a new curly hairstyle with blond highlights.

Fans were so rabid to get their hands on the outfit that Hudson quickly posted the design for sale on Monday night. While the designer told Page Six Style exclusively that the former FLOTUS’ custom look would retail for nearly $8,000, he’s created a version for the public for $1,295.

And while those with arms like MObama’s will likely gravitate toward the short-sleeve version, the look is also available in a longer, full-coverage iteration.
